The Power of Team Work
Dan and I worked together at HC Starck for 5 years. During that time he introduced the company to 5S, Lean Systems and Six Sigma. As the materials manager Dan and I worked on numerous projects including my Six Sigma Green Belt certification. One project stands out. We installed a kanban pull system with General Electric Medical that reduced the customers inventory from more than a week to less than 2 days. Below is a note from the voice of the customer thanking us for our improvement efforts: “I just wanted to take a minute and say thanks for the delivery today. I think we all broke a record when it comes to time from order to delivery. 2 hours is amazing! So…Thanks!! Regards, General Electric Healthcare”
I have known and worked with Dan for more than 20 years. He is one of the best Lean technicians I have ever worked with and his contribution and leadership at Freudenberg-NOK were invaluable. His background, experience and formal training in Continuous Improvement/ Lean Systems is extensive and makes him very effective in driving cost down and customer satisfaction up. I was very fortunate to work with Dan in the past, would jump at the chance to work with him again, and I definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a Continuous Improvement veteran.
Dan managed CIP at Laird/Cattron. He helped me through the tedious Green Belt certification from beginning to end, along with many other colleagues. He was very knowledgeable and able to speak to employees at many different levels and help them understand and get excited about the lean culture. Dan loves CIP and 5S and his energy is contagious. Dan worked directly for me for a few years and he was always up to any challenge I threw his way. Dan would be an asset to any organization.
Dan,
Very nice job. After seeing all of what our team is doing and how much was accomplished on SDSS day, I wanted to work here! I can only imagine how jealous folks at other Laird sites are going to feel. You have helped turn the culture into one that looks for continuous improvement and acts on it.
Best Regards,
Rick Morse SVP & GM Laird Controls N America, Inc
Hello All,
I just wanted to write a short note regarding my visit yesterday. I have been in many plants over the years and involved in many facilities / cultures that claim to be LEAN advocates and implementers. The visual aids, developed Kanban systems, quality / inspection data, along with Kaizen Team boards, that are displayed and up to date in your facilities are a testament to being a world class facility and among the very best I have seen.
Thanks Again

The Wireless Automation and Control Solutions (WACS) business unit was recently honored with Laird’s Global Continuous Improvement (CIP) Award. Recognizing constant improvement within processes and procedures in accordance with Lean manufacturing, the award was given to WACS for the Lean layout of its facility in Warren, Ohio, U.S. “Setting up a facility in a Lean manner is a very competitive and stringent process,” said Raja Sodhi, Vice President of Global Operations for WACS. “I am extremely proud of the work our team has done that resulted in this recognition at the highest levels.”
I hired Dan to help develop a Lean culture within Laird’s WACS division. The WACS division had little to no experience with continuous improvement. Dan and I developed the Laird Continuous Improvement Road Map which has three areas of focus: People Development, Management of the Improvement System and Improvement Projects. Dan led the Laird team using this road map and transformed a tradition batch operation into a world class Lean facility. In the first 2 years: safety improved by 54%, DPPM were reduced by 94%, OTD improved by 17%, COPQ improved by 98% and the Lean Deployment & Assessment (Lean D&A) improved by 62%. The WACS division went from the worst of 20 sites to the best. I would recommend Dan to any organization.
Dan’s knowledge of the lean tools has played a huge role in my success as a lean manager over the last 15 years. He has developed improvement training materials, implemented lean activities at FNGP and worked with me on several Kaizen projects that turned manufacturing processes and cell performances into profitable projects. Dan is very LEAN oriented and I would recommend him, not only as a colleague and friend but a professional Lean Manager.
